Since curing my own breast cancer and writing about it, I’ve been contacted by people around the world suffering from real illness, seeking help with the plant.
Finding medicine makers and connecting them with patients can be a frustrating process from a distance, albeit helped with social networking.
I live in a part of the world where medicine is plentiful. My daily personal prescription of green leaf for juicing has not been hard to fill. Talking with people suffering and struggling to get good medicine keeps me humble and grateful for my bounty.
Canna Help?
Until the Federal Government admits they hold the U.S. Patent for cannabinoids, and come clean about cannabis as medicine, the crazy quilt of ordinances strewn across state, county and city lines will continue to be a blurry configuration of road blocks, hindering humans in helping each other.
And that’s the true crime of keeping humans from this plant and the knowledge thereof. Helping each other is what we do best as a species. Even when fighting a foe, if there is a window of human compassion open, we’ll go to that innate place of caring everytime.
What Cure?
Recently I helped a young man with cancer get his “Medical Marijuana” card and connect with medicine makers from hundreds of miles away. That can be challenging, but he lives in a metropolitan area and I thought it would be easy to get him treatment and support.
One phone call after the other asking dispensaries in his area if they had “RSO,” “Rick Simpson Oil” or an equivalent of the cure for cancer turned up short. Most bud tenders that answered the phone did not know what the cure was.
Those that came through to help are forever cherished, but the lack of knowledge by bud tenders and dispensary/ collective garden owners tells me that patients presenting with real illness are not being fully informed of alternative therapies to traditional medicine.
While I understand fully that smoking is necessary and valuable in treating myriad symptoms and ailments, if a patient has a real illness, or a terminal one, they need to be enlightened about ingesting.
Comfortably Numb
Some say the original “God Plant” is long gone, and Jesus would hardly recognize his tried and true “Holy Anointing Oil.” It’s been hybridized into a recreational vehicle, driven to numb the masses, with being “stupid stoned” a toxic effect from the bastardization.
The plant that’s been said to have evolved our endocannabinoid system has become somewhat of an enabler, getting patients through the invasive and seemingly archaic practice of traditional medicine, with its true healing properties a distant memory clouded by short term memory loss.
This is where we are with cannabis in this country today. Without real, respected information on this plant, physicians won’t know about it. They aren’t educated on the medicinal properties of cannabis in med school. For the most part, they hear about its good work from their own patients.
Educating Doctors
As an advocate for good medicine, it’s heartbreaking running into dead ends on finding medicine in legal states. Thank goodness for social media and those who step up –but, the painful reality is, we on the weed blogs and cannabis magazines are preaching to the choir.
How can we break through the smoky ceiling of ignorance surrounding this plant? Where to begin?
For starters, make an appointment with your doctor and tell them about cannabis as medicine. Gather up all the information you can on the Endocannabinoid System. Tell them how you use it, how it helps you. If you are only smoking, let them know you’d like to find out more about ingesting.
Ask them if they wouldn’t mind working with you, alongside traditional therapies through your illness, documenting its effects for posterity.
Even if they aren’t copacetic at the time they will have heard the words. They just may do a few Google searches on their own. And with more than half the population alright with lighting up, your good doctor may already be a closet smoker with a real need to ingest.
Thank you for reading… now, go tell it on the mountain.
